IVA vs BIVA

It has become apparent as we visit forums and reply to e-mails that many people are being misinformed as to the nature of the proposed new test based on exemptions from existing European law. We are simply amazed by the amount of misinformation and pub expert talk out there.

IVA is the overall scheme aimed at mainstream small manufacturers and replaces the old ESVA (Enhanced Single Vehicle Approval) whilst BIVA (Basic Individual Vehicle Assessment) is the replacement for SVA.

Tightening of emissions in Germany

Once again out European cousins lead the way in clamping down on emissions and are banning many cars from their city centres. There are exemptions for ORIGINAL unmodified Historic vehicle over 30 years old but if your car is made between 1978 and 1993 you won’t be allowed in.

Right To Repair

Car manufacturers have in the past tried to stop the aftermarket supplying pattern parts and so protect their high profit margins. This in turn would have an adverse affect on the budget / enthusiast who could not afford the high price of replacement OEM components. They have also tried, and failed in the past to prevent the home mechanic working on his vehicle. However by building with increasing technology requiring specialised equipment they are effectively winning this battle slowly.
