Towing and BIVA/NIVA

All tow bars fitted since that 1998 must be Type Approved or are illegal for use.

The vehicle must also show a GVTW (Gross Vehicle Train Weight) on its VIN plate to ensure it is not overloaded beyond its design capacity.

Some modern vehicles are NOT approved for towing by the manufacturers and so any towbar fitted will be illegal.

DVLA - Engine swap notification changes

In the past DVLA have only required supporting evidence on a change of cc when it has affected the taxation rate of the vehicle by going to a lower class, if it went to a higher class it was just accepted. It has been their policy to request written confirmation from the garage that carried out the work and to withhold the issue of a new V5C until their request has been met.
