Chip Tuning Restrictions - UPDATE

Further to our update on BIVA Consultation where we spotted that the EU were looking into restriction on chip tuning: -

”We will keep the situation under review during the implementation period and maintain contacts with stakeholders to identify any new or emerging evidence. The European Commission also plan to regulate certain items fitted in the aftermarket (such as engine management “chips”) and we will await their proposals.“

Update: Tightening of emissions in Germany

The German government has announced that Historic vehicles will be exempt from restrictions, or fines, resulting from the Low Emissions Zones currently being set up in many cities.

On the surface it’s an encouraging initiative but reading the definition of Historic vehicle, as applied by the German authorities, shows the problems with creating a tight definition.

Tightening of emissions in Germany

Once again out European cousins lead the way in clamping down on emissions and are banning many cars from their city centres. There are exemptions for ORIGINAL unmodified Historic vehicle over 30 years old but if your car is made between 1978 and 1993 you won’t be allowed in.
