The current change in requirements for pre 1960 exemption threw up questions regarding VRM (Vehicle Registration Mark) transfers and also how it would affect vehicles requiring an MoT before first registration in this country.
“We are keen to ensure that keepers of those vehicles currently eligible to participate in the Cherished Transfer Scheme can continue to do so. Therefore, we are considering using the voluntary test criteria that was included in the announcement.
Regarding importing pre 1960 vehicles, in order to register an imported vehicle the keeper would need to provide documentation showing where the vehicle was previously registered, no MoT would be required. Once the vehicle has been registered then it would need to meet the same requirements as any other vehicle that was first registered in an equivalent period.”
So pre 1960 vehicles entering this country from somewhere with no safety tests, would be able to be registered without the need for an MoT, but would obviously still be required to meet UK Construction and Use Regulations when in use on our roads.
