DVLA - Engine swap notification changes

In the past DVLA have only required supporting evidence on a change of cc when it has affected the taxation rate of the vehicle by going to a lower class, if it went to a higher class it was just accepted. It has been their policy to request written confirmation from the garage that carried out the work and to withhold the issue of a new V5C until their request has been met.

Unlicensed vehicles on private land

An interesting issue arose as part of the 2008 Finance Bill, which recently passed through parliament. Until now, if a vehicle was not licensed or covered by SORN it could only be wheel clamped or removed by the DVLA if it was on a public road.

The following amendment, which is buried in the Background Notes section of the bill, changes that provision and allows for clamping and subsequent removal of vehicles on land that is not ‘Intrinsically part of a private dwelling’.

Trials of chipped plates continuing

Plans for using RFID chipped number plates on vehicles looked to have been shelved in the past. It appears however that trials have recently been taking place to test the efficiency and usage of the idea.
